LG Pad tablet In Q1
LG will launch an Android-based tablet device in the first quarter of 2011, one that comes with a bigger screen and a faster processor compared to the newly released Samsung Galaxy Tab.
According to Korean website MK News (which cited a senior LG Electronics official), the device will have a 8.9-inch touchscreen and will be called the LG Pad, one powered by the next version of Google Android, not Gingerbread but Honeycomb.
The anonymous source also said that the LG Pad will be launched in domestic and overseas markets. This could well mean that Android OS v2.3 (AKA Gingerbread) will have a very short lifespan.
The other titbit is the presence of a dual core Tegra 2 processor from Nvidia which is based on an ARM Cortex A9 design and should easily best current tablets on the market.
Plans for a Froyo based tablet from LG, the Optimus Pad, appeared to have been canned prematurely and the one picture of the device that came to us shows a rather elegant design, not unlike the iPhone 4.

Currently the iPad is holding a 90%-95% of the tablet market and reportedly 20% of all consumers in the US plan on purchasing an iPad in the near future. Is this going to be the funeral of the netbook?
